Huge congratulations to all the pupils at Westbury who are now published authors!
As part of our Westbury Book Festival back in the Spring term, all our pupils submitted stories, poems and other pieces of writing to be published in our very own book.
Mrs Ramage ran a whole-school assembly to introduce the book and Key Stage Leaders read out their favourite stories before giving out the books.Every pupil should now have received a copy of the book to keep.
We gave parents and carers the opportunity to purchase extra copies of the book and we have a few copies left, so if you are interested in having another one, having seen what it looks like, please contact the school office.
Well done to everyone involved.
Westbury is celebrating books and reading during a month of activities that will conclude with Key Stage 2 taking part in World Book Day on 3rd March.
In February we had a visiting author in Key Stage 2 and the whole school took part in our second Blind Date With A Book event for Valentine’s Day, with each pupil receiving a wrapped book to keep that they had been set up on a ‘date’ with!
We are writing our own book of pupil stories and poems that will be professionally published later in the year through the ‘We are Writers‘ programme. Pupils had an opportunity to design the picture for the front cover, with the winning entry designed by Luke in Mrs Routledge’s class.
Pupils will each receive a copy of the book and there will be an opportunity for parents and carers to purchase additional copies.
Other events and activities will take place in-class and we aim to encourage all pupils to develop their love of reading for pleasure.
